Making your safari dreams real
For some people, African bush life is reality. It’s what we wake up to—very early—each day. It’s how we absorb the essence of the natural environment; cope with inevitable challenges; roll with the punches; put out fires—metaphorically, but occasionally real ones too; make a plan; adapt and pivot; and sometimes remember to thank our lucky stars. Those real, bright, infinite ones above our piece of wild, earthly heaven remind us how fortunate we are to live like this every day.
For others, it is a dream—often a lifelong one. Dazzling images of wild open spaces, herds of animals, dramatic hunts, skirmishes, births, deaths and everything in between have been portrayed so vividly on film.
Expectations can be high, and the pressure on those who build, plan, cater, guide and host to deliver that dream is immense.
But that is where passion and joy enter the equation. There is nothing quite as wonderful as seeing the world we know so well through new eyes.
Those who choose to work behind the scenes at a game reserve, lodge or holiday destination are choosing not only a job, but also a way to express their love. They want you to feel, taste, wonder, marvel—and fall in love too.
If that means braving the elements, travelling great distances, juggling food shortages, navigating extreme weather, patching washed-away roads, repairing broken fences, researching information and occasionally pulling a rabbit out of a hat, well—that is all part of the unwritten job description.
It is all done in the name of bringing each visitor a version of the African dream they have carried in their mind for years.
The dances, stories, culinary treats, smiles and personal notes. The willingness to accommodate changing plans. Choosing late nights, early mornings, long weeks, cold, heat, dust, wind and physical labour to create an unforgettable guest experience—that is what sharing love looks like.
If you’ve been on safari, you’ll understand.
If you haven’t—yet—there’s a whole world of love waiting to be shared.
